The Commission is responsible for:
- Registering and maintaining companies, close corporations and co-operatives to ensure an accurate, reliable business register.
- Administering the registration of intellectual property rights, including trade marks, patents, designs and copyright, to support innovation and economic growth.
- Providing public access to business and intellectual property information to promote transparency and accountability.
- Promoting education and awareness of company and intellectual property law to enhance voluntary compliance.
- Promoting, monitoring and enforcing compliance with the Companies Act and related legislation.
- Monitoring compliance with prescribed financial reporting standards and making recommendations to the Financial Reporting Standards Council (FRSC).
- Administering beneficial ownership disclosure requirements to enhance transparency and combat the abuse of legal people.
- Licensing and regulating business rescue practitioners to support business sustainability and economic recovery.
- Administering annual returns to determine the continued operation and compliance status of registered entities.
- Conducting research and advising the Minister on matters of national policy relating to company and intellectual property law.
